Machine tools, locomotives and bulldozers: Japan bans the export of a group of industrial goods to the Russian Federation

Japan has published a new list of goods that are prohibited from being supplied to the Russian Federation – the ban will come into effect on June 17. The list includes, in particular, dump trucks, bulldozers, excavators, locomotives and other machinery for industry.

The list was prepared by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan.

At the beginning of June, the Japanese government announced a ban on the export of goods to Russia that contribute to the strengthening of its production base. Then the list of these products was not specified. Among others, the following categories of industrial exports fell under export restrictions:

  • locomotives for railways and cars for the maintenance of railway lines;
  • bulldozers, mechanical excavators, drilling machines and tunnel excavators;
  • steam generators and gas generators;
  • gas and vacuum pumps, gas compressors, fans;
  • lifting, loading and unloading, loading or unloading machines, including conveyors;
  • transport machines and their parts;
  • weaving machines, spare parts and components for them;
  • measuring and control-measuring equipment, components for them and other goods.

The Japanese government has expanded the list of goods and technologies prohibited for export to Russia. The list includes, in particular, high-tech equipment, 3D printers and equipment for quantum computing.
